Nationality is just
By accident of birth,
Just where parents reside
On in habitable Earth,
And you can't eat a flag
Or drink a National song
Fervour may assuage hunger
But not for very long.
And the offshore patriots
Will guzzle and gorge
And encourage idolatry
Of the Greek St George,
But will they pay extra tax
To feed a hungry child
Or help build housing to
see them safely domiciled.
Encourage. bread and circuses
In the guise of the footie game
To keep the population docile
And keep things just the same.
Give the people fairyland
In the guise of the Soaps
And do just enough maybe
To encourage dreams and hopes,
Scream austerity and prudence
With the little cash that's left
And boldly carry on with
Their blatant asset theft,
Keep many hungry and desperate
Give them a manufactured cause
And if all else fails send
Cannon fodder off to wars.
